Reverse Garbage is a not-for-profit workers' co-operative that collects high quality industrial discards, diverting them from landfill to sell them at low cost to the general public. At Reverse Garbage the belief is that waste is something we do - not something that is.

Reverse Garbage was established in 1998 by Friends of the Earth Brisbane to support the ongoing operation of the organisation. Reverse Garbage lives in the same building as the Friends of the Earth office in West End and provides a wide array of interesting and ever-changing materials for re-use. Whether it be art and craft, a school project, something that needs to be renovated around the home, an upcoming theatre production, Reverse Garbage probably have materials here that you can use...at a fraction of the price you would normally pay.

Materials for re-use

The Reverse Garbage warehouse is brimming with colourful and interesting materials which were destined for landfill.  We bring in a new truckload of materials every day, so the stock is always changing.  The majority of our materials are pre-consumer discards from industry.  We have timber, foam, plastics, vinyl, fabrics, metal, paper, tiles, glass, cardboard ... and so on.

Echoes Gift Shop

Located within the Reverse Garbage warehouse, Echoes Giftshop exhibits the innovative works of artists, craftworkers and designers who use at least 75% re-used or recycled materials in their work.  All sorts of materials, from discarded venetian blinds and scrap metal to broken mirrors and re-used bottles, have taken on new life as works of art.  Salvaged materials take on new form and meaning, illustrating the possibilities for the re-use of otherwise wasted materials.
