Beattie cagey on Narangba chemical testing
Mr BEATTIE when you release any information about testing re the Binary fire, please advise us of the date you did the testing.
The article appearing in the Courier Mail 19/12/06 is results of testing done just in the last few months – not done at the time of the fire. This testing was done after most of the soil from the creek and other places had been removed and most of the contaminated water had been removed. IT WAS NOT DONE BEFORE INTERFERENCE BY COUNCIL AND EPA.
This article also says that they hoped this would stop any legal action – NOT LIKELY. On previous occasions we have stated that this Binary Fire was the catalyst that bought the legal action forward – it was not the reason for the legal action.
For over ten years members of this group have been writing to EPA, Queensland Health, State Development, Pine Rivers Shire Council, Caboolture Shire Council, Narangba Industrial Estate Reference Group, Premiers, Mayors, Ministers and others advising them of the problems in this Estate. Many people have been complaining to authorities for much longer than this group – some over 27 years ago.
This Industrial Estate is placed in the midst of housing developments, many that existed long before the Industrial Estate and probably all the estates long before the extension to the Industrial Estate was passed in 1999. No Community Consultation was afforded to this Community.
Questions have to be asked how many of the Industries objected to any of the Housing Developments when they were in the planning stage. The opportunity to do so was afford to all (Community and Industry) before they were passed.
The Community says “Enough is Enough” and we want immediate closure of these Industries in the Estate.
