June Norman and the 'Footprints for Peace' anti-nuclear / peace walk preparation is gearing up for our March 2010 walk.
The anti-nuclear collective over the last few months has been finalising the evaluation of the Peace convergence, campaigning around general uranium and nuclear matters, continuing to build relationships with Indigenous representatives in northern Queensland.
Building solidarity with Indigenous peoples in the Shoalwater region has been significant, with members of the collective meeting and working with Darumbal elders (Rockhampton/Shoalwater Bay) on long-term Darumbul-initiated actions/events in the region.
On the issue of Food Irradiation, we have had a small win with the irradiation of cat food banned in Australia, through community action and the involvement of RSPCA. The 2010 edition of Irradiation-free Food Guide is also underway so keep an eye on the website for an update on how companies are responding (or not) to the risks of food irradiation.
On a final note, our collective is always open to new people who have an interest in uranium and nuclear issues. Please contact the office or drop in on Wednesdays if you'd like to be involved in building a peaceful and nuclear-free future.
