Energy

The Story of Cap & Trade is a fast-paced, fact-filled look at the leading climate solution. http://storyofstuff.com/

Growing supply and demand for heavily polluting energy is destroying our planet. Friends of the Earth has a brighter vision for our future.

Climate change is the hottest topic of the decade however the impacts of energy production don't stop there. As well as releasing greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, energy produciton from heavily polluting sources such as coal and petroleum threatens bio-diversity and destroys fragile ecosystems.

Polluting energy production, particularly uranium, uses vast amounts of water, and adds additional pressure on our land resources for food production.

However the environment isn't the only victim of our increasing demand for cheap energy. Around Australia and the World people are suffering from the extraction, processing and use of polluting energy such as coal, petroluem, uranium and increasingly bio-fuels.

Friends of the Earth believes that change is possible and is already happening. Innovations in truly renewable technologies such as solar, wind and geothermal are developing at a drastic rate. So why aren't we seeing a phasing out of old, polluting technologies?

Friends of the Earth believes that until communities are working together and demanding truly renewable energy that this desparately needed transformation will not occur.

Volunteer with Friends of the Earth Brisbane to help in the transformation to a truly renewable future.

What are we doing?

Friends of the Earth is leading the demand for Australia to transform it's energy sector to truly renewable sources. Our anti-nuclear campaign aims to ensure Australia does not expand our nuclear industry.

Six Degrees, the Coal and Climate Change campaign works with communities to demand that Queensland transitions away from coal and into renewables.
