Friends of the Earth Brisbane is a community based social change organisation. FoEB was formed in late 1997 following a campaign to stop the opening of a new sand mine on North Stradbroke Island. The organisation has flourished since this time to become Brisbane's leading social change organisation.
Friends of the Earth Brisbane founders felt strongly that an organisation which works passionately on a wide range of environmental and social issues in Queensland, and in particular Brisbane, was needed. Into the decade of 2010 we continue to play a driving role in building a radical social change movement.
Friends of the Earth Brisbane acknowledges that many groups have formed to work on environmental and social justice issues only to disband within a matter of months or a couple of years. This has meant that little momentum has developed to build a social change movement and a culture of transformation and resistance. Experience and skills are rarely passed on to young activists and there is little "value adding" to good work that has been done in the past. This results in much "reinventing of wheels" and wasted resources.
Here at Friends of the Earth Brisbane we believe that only through a well resourced and passionate grassroots organisation will protection of our natural environment be realised.
Please consider supporting Friends of the Earth Brisbane and enable us to continue to work towards a brighter future for our planet.
