June 2011 News and Events ebulletin

It's been a while since our last update but we've finally managed to tear ourselves away from our mobilizing, resisting and transforming to bring you this June update. Enjoy, and we look forward to seeing you at the Friends of the Earth 40 year anniversary celebration (see below).

February 2011 News and Events ebulletin

Posted in

It's proven a tough start to the year for many of us in Brisbane, and we at FoE hope you and your family are safe and well. It's been quite incredible to see the massive community response to the flooding, and really fills our hearts with hope. There's lots on our plate at FoE too, as we say farewell to our West End house and renovate our new office space at Woolloongabba. We still need lots of help, please contact us to get involved.

War games threaten the GBR and Coral Sea communties: FoE report released

Friends of the Earth Brisbane have released our response on the AECOM Public Environment Report for Excercise Talisman Sabre 2011, the US-Australian joint war games. TS11 is the biggest military operation outside of war and takes place in several places in Australia, including the Shoalwater Bay area in QLD, the Great Barrier Reef and the Coral Sea. The PER has no legal standing and is not an EIS. It is an elaborate greenwashing excercise for a toxic, dangerous and murderous industry: militarism.  Read our report here:

December News and Events

Welcome to our final bulletin for the year. Thanks for supporting Friends of the Earth this year, and we hope to see you at some of the great events coming up this month.

PNG landowners rejected by Highland Pacific in plead for no mining deep sea toxic release

Friends of the Earth and ACT NOW PNG! were unable to deliver copies of more than 500 protest letters from Papua New Guinea villagers to mining company Highlands Pacific office in Brisbane Australia today because the company had closed its office. The protest letters request Highlands Pacific to halt dumping toxic waste into the sea.

November News and Events

Welcome to our November update, packed full of the latest enviro and social justice events and date-claimers to hit the mean streets of Brisbane. With space opening up on a lot of our calendars as the year draws to a close, why not come along and join us in celebrating action? :)

October news and events bulletin

Welcome to the news and events update for October! As the weather hots up, so does FoE (and not just our volunteers!). We've got a huge bunch of events lined up over the course of the next month, from workshops to seminars to mass actions in defence of our biodiversity in Queensland. Why not spring clean your life this month and decide to help out with FoE? See ya around! :)

Biofuels are Not Renewable Energy: Reportback from Brussels Media Conference

Biofuels are not renewable energy. Current production of agriculturally derived fuels is unsustainable and is damaging ancient forests and unique ecosystems in Australia and across the Asia Pacific region.

Friends of the Earth Brisbane extended our campaign reach this month by taking a clear message to Europe that agrofuels (biofuels) are not a solution to climate change and is driving the Queensland hairy nosed wombat to extinction. Friends of the Earth has been building its campaign position to combat the expansion of the industry, an industry that delivers E10 (ethanol and petroleum blend) to unsuspecting motorists that have been sold the lie that biofuels are clean and green.

September news and events

Spring is here! Whilst we're still without a federal government, we're happy to know that community action is as strong as ever. Make sure you drop into our new Warra campaign office (made possible thanks to the kind donations of all our supporters!) and keep in touch by coming along to an event or two.
