Bligh commended for staying firm on uranium mining in QLD

We are writing to congratulate you for re-affirming your commitment to keeping Queensland free of uranium mines.   We thank you for not backing down on your principles on  the  sale of  uranium  to India , and for stating that you will maintain Queensland Labor’s “no uranium mines  policy”, despite the pressure applied by Julia Gillard and uranium industry promoters.

Clive Palmer’s car swamped by angry landowners as Nature Refuge stands to fall

Mining magnate Clive Palmer avoided being mobbed today by angry landowners over the proposed Waratah Coal’s Galilee Coal (aka China First) mine. The mine will see total destruction of a Queensland Nature Refuge, paving the way for Queensland's 412 Nature Refuges to be mined.

Strategic Environmental Assessment and Gladstone Harbour - Terms of Reference and Dredging Response

Research from climate change experts released this week shows that coal mines and subsequent carbon emissions will accelerate the loss of the Great Barrier Reef resulting in jobs losses and massive impacts on the Queensland economy.

Mega coal mine challenged in QLD Land & Environment Court

A landmark case in Australia’s environmental history will begin in Brisbane on Monday when environment group Friends of the Earth take on global mining giant Xstrata in a bid to have a proposed mega coal mine in Queensland rejected. 

The court case will be the first ever in Australia to argue exclusively for outright refusal of a coal mine based on climate change impacts.

Coal Seam Gas protest stops exploration in Tara!

The national movement against coal and coal seam gas mining, farmers and environmental groups around the country are backing a three-day event, including displays, workshops and direct action, at Tara on the western Darling Downs in Queensland.

Friends of the Earth takes Xstrata to Court over Climate Impacts

On Friday 25th February, 2011, Friends of the Earth lodged an objection against a massive open cut coal mine proposed by Xstrata Coal for west of Wandoan in South West Queensland.
