NGOs release alternative report to Uranium Implementation Committee

Friends of the earth, in conjunction with the Australian Conservation Foundation, Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, Electrical Trades Union, North Queensland Conservation Council, Queensland Conservation Council and Queensland Nuclear Free Alliance have released a report damning the LNPs push for uranium mining in our state.

High Risk – Low Returns: the case against uranium mining in Queensland is the NGO and civil society response to the LNPs undemocratic decision to go ahead with uranium mining in our state.

Happy 2013 - International Year of Ending Fossil Fuel Dependence! (wishful thinking, we know)

Court slaps down Xstrata costs claim, FoE jubilant

The Land Court on Monday Dec 3rd rejected Xstrata's legal costs application against Friends of the Earth Brisbane, over their objection to the Wandoan mega coal mine.

Friends of the Earth spokesperson Dr Bradley Smith says their organisation is relieved by the decision. The costs application was expected to be for over half a million dollars, far above the resources of Friends of the Earth Brisbane, which is a small volunteer-run environment group.

Six Degrees July Update

July finished on a historic note for the anti-coal and CSG movement with the "Beyond Coal and Gas" forum in Mackay. Around 80 affected landholders, farmers and campaigners met over three days, sharing knowledge, strategy and networks.

Gladstone Harbour Dredging - local protestor supported by the courts

Today the Brisbane magistrates court supported the efforts of Gladstone local Mark Discoll in his stand defending the destructive dredging of the Gladstone Harbour in the Great Barrier Reef.

On the 14 March 2012 Gladstone local Mark 'Potts' Driscoll boarded and stopped one of the controversial Gladstone Harbour dredges. Mr Driscoll took action to defend the Great Barrier Reef and Gladstone Harbour from the destructive dredging caused by Queensland's coal seam gas industry.
